History:
A pair of twins were born with powerful magic and they cared very much for each other. Their names were Fai and Yuui. However, with their birth came a perceived omen - Their mother, the Queen, took her own life, crops perished, water became contaminated. At a young age, the twins were told that their sorrow that would arise through being separated and imprisoned in a valley with no magic and slowed time, would allow the Kingdom, Valeria, to prosper again. The twins agreed, and Fai was sealed high in the tower while Yuui was at the bottom of the valley. Yuui desperately tried to climb out of the valley, promising himself that, with he and his brother's combined magic, they would be able to go to another world. He tried to use the dead bodies around him, bodies of condemned criminals, to climb out, but had no success.
However, the body count only rose. Yuui noticed the corpses of mothers and infants being thrown into the valley now. He wonders how these people could possibly be guilty of crimes, until he finds a scroll in someone's hands. The scroll contains information of the King, who had fallen into insanity and started putting the innocent to death. It was all considered to be the curse the twins brought with their birth. When none of the Kingdom's citizens remain, the King throws himself into the valley, and tells Yuui that the twins are the only ones left, and tells them to even try and attempt for their sins, before killing himself right there before the child. Yuui laments over just existing.
Fai, in the meantime, is stranded in the top of the tower, and finds himself wishing for his own death - if only it would free Yuui and bring him happiness. Fei Wang confronts Fai through a split between dimensions and asks him to choose himself or Yuui. Fai chooses for Yuui's freedom and sacrifices himself. Fei Wang then kills Fai.
Fei Wang then comes to Yuui, asking if he wishes to leave their forsaken Kingdom. When Yuui confirms it, Fei Wang throws Fai's dead body before him and says that Yuui is to blame, for his wish did this. Then he tells Yuui that, if Yuui wishes to see Fai resurrected, then he must follow closely with his plans. That, in the future, Yuui would go on a journey with a group of people - the most important of which was a desert Princess, and the memories her body will gather. However, one of the group was unaccounted for and may be an interference in the goal - a ninja. If this is the case, then Yuui is to kill him. When Yuui shows hesitation, Fei Wang says that he didn't hesitate to kill his own brother, so what was a stranger to him. He also tells Yuui that at least two feathers will come to the land he will be going to, and to use one of them to preserve Fai's body, while using the other to save the Princess upon first meeting.
When Ashura-ou arrives to pick up the twins, he asks for Yuui's name. Yuui says that he is Fai, to take on his dead brother's name and atone for his sin. When they put Fai's body into a preservation chamber, Yuui asks to cut his hair to leave with his brother. Ashura-ou also offers a protective stone found in Celes - Flourite. With the stone and it's meaning, he gives Yuui his new name - Fai Flourite. Yuui then resolved that, until the day that Fai is resurrected, he absolutely cannot die, no matter how many lives he has to take for it.
When Fai receives the first feather, he morphs it into the image of his mother to "stay by the real Fai's side, even while he's not there." Even still as a child, Fai has achieved the level of D-rank wizard, which is an extremely powerful status title used as a middle initial. Although he finds he cannot use healing magic of any kind, much to his dismay, though Ashura-ou tells him that his smile is healing magic enough. Ashura-ou summons him later and offers to suppress Fai's curse, since each time Fai uses magic, he becomes stronger. He concocts a magical tattoo for Fai to wear that will prevent his magic from becoming any stronger. The spell, however, will diminish after Ashura-ou's death. With it, he makes Fai promise to protect the people in the country of Celes from any harm that might befall them.
Years later, the people of Celes start becoming slaughtered left and right. Fai vows to find the beast responsible and eliminate it. However, it becomes quickly discovered that the one killing all of the citizens is Ashura-ou himself. He tells Fai to defeat him, and Fai once again takes the blame as his own, for just merely existing. Fai opts to run away, and puts Ashura-ou into a deep sleep to avoid having to kill him. Shortly after doing so, he decides he can no longer stay on Celes, and conforms Chii to be able to tell him when Ashura-ou wakes up.
He bids Ashura-ou the sweetest of dreams, and then he departs on the mission Fei Wang gave him so long ago, going to see the Dimension Witch, Yuuko. There, he meets Syaoran and Kurogane, and a sleeping Sakura. He makes the wish to travel to as many worlds as he can while avoiding his own. His price to go with the others is to give up his power-restricting tattoo, which he agrees to very hesitantly. The group is given Mokona to use as a means for communication and travel, and are sent on their on their journey
In the first world, the Hanshin Republic, Fai produces the promised feather for Sakura. Though he behaves and claims that it was attached to Syaoran all along, "In order to save the girl". When he wonders aloud how they will somehow stumble acrost more feathers, Mokona offers to alert them when one is nearby. Fai offers his services to Syaoran, under the promise that his own life is not in danger. However, the opposite seems to be true, when one of the rowdier gangs comes looking for Syaoran. He is willing to let the group believe that he himself is Syaoran, saying, "What if I am?" Kurogane takes notice of this, but says nothing. However, Syaoran steps forward to face the gang leader. And Fai is willing to jump in when Syaoran starts to face some trouble, but Kurogane takes over instead. When Syaoran tries to stop him, Fai tells him not to, because Kuro-tan would probably get mad if he did try to do so. After Kurogane wins the fight, they later find out that Mokona detected a feather, but no one was paying attention. Given that the feather's power just vanished afterwards, the group assumes that it must be within a Kudan, one of the guardian Gods that accompany each person in this world. Later, when they are confronted by Primera, an idol with a powerful Kudan, Fai offer his services. Claiming that he is using his Kudan, Fai's flight and dodge abilities are primarily his own; "as light as paper," Syaoran describes. Kurogane also makes note that Fai appears to be a "combat veteran." Primera manages to land a blow, throwing Fai into some trees. Although it catches him by surprise, he also is able to point out the conclusion that Primera's Kudan is not the keeper of the feather, since Mokona isn't reacting. Primera threatens to attack the others, but Fai says that he would really prefer if it ended with himself, politely asking her to stop as he does not wish to cause her harm. Mokona detects the feather when Masayoshi's wish to be as strong as Syaoran causes his Kudan to become overflowing with power. With Syaoran's determination, the feather is recovered and returned to Sakura. She awakens, but doesn't recognize Syaoran, per his price to pay. When Syaoran goes to cry in the rain, Fai says it takes a whole lot of strength to be able to cry when one should.
Their arrival into Koryo comes with a very literal crash, and the group is attacked by the son of the Ryanban - the leader of the city Ryonfi. A girl name Chunhyang shows up and fends of the son of the Ryanban by telling him off. However, he threatens the wellbeing of everyone before leaving. Abruptly, Chunhyang pulls the group with her and asks if they are Amenosa - a group of spies that overthrow corrupt rulers. Fai asks questions about the Amenosa and introduces the group, using nicknames to tease Kurogane, calling him "Kuro-puu" this time. Suddenly, a gale sent by the Ryanban attacks Chunhyang's house, leaving a gaping hole in the ceiling. With the Ryanban's history revealed, we learn that Chunhyang's mother was killed by the Ryanban, and that the country of Ryonfi has tried to rebel many times, but none can even get close to his castle due to magic. Fai offers the suggestion of kidnapping the Ryanban's son and holding him hostage, and Kurogane calls him out for being too happy while saying a dark thing. To which, Fai just smiles and acts oblivious. He also points out the different timelines of different worlds, and that the Ryanban's power gained a year ago could still be one of Sakura's feather. the group can safely assume he has one of the feathers. While the majourity of the group goes to gather information, Kurogane and Fai stay behind to repair the damaged roof. Fai notes aloud his observances on the Princess not having enough feathers to be herself, and this causes her to fall asleep all of the time. And he sadly adds that even if she gets all of her feathers back, she will never remember Syaoran. Though, he then puts back on the playful facade and says, "Maybe they'll bring back presents," frustrating Kurogane again, since he's the one doing the repairs while Fai drinks tea. Later on, Fai says they need something to break the Ryanban's spell to approach the castle. Kurogane asks if Fai can do anything, and he just happily says, "Not even a little!" However, Fai trades his staff for a means, and they head into the castle. When met by an endless hallway, Fai is able to target a point of magic, and has Kurogane break down the wall to lead to a room of their first enemy, the Kiishimu. She is an illusion enchantress demon, though the illusions she casts can cause very real physical harm. He has Kurogane throw Syaoran and Mokona to the point in the ceiling where the Kiishimu's magic is weakest, so that something can be done while he and Kurogane try to solve the problem here. Kurogane saves Fai from being killed by one of the acidic bubbles attacking them, and then destroys the gem on her forehead, granting the Kiishimu her freedom. The Kiishimu deals with the Ryanban herself, and Sakura gets her feather back. They bid farewell and depart for the next world, making a pitstop in the Country of Mist; a place with a lake, where they find a massive glowing scale.
In Jade Country. Fai utilizes Sakura's special luck in gambling in order to obtain funds and clothing to blend into the country. They find out the ancient story of a feather that fell into a Princess's grasp, and children started disappearing. Now, 300 years later, children have started disappearing again. To pursue the feather, they travel North to the town of Spirit. When they arrive, the townsman rush in, ready to attack. So, they introduce themselves under the guise of traveling to research legends in order to write a book; with Fai as the writer, Sakura as his sister, Syaoran as his assistant, and Kurogane as the hired help. The doctor of the town, Kyle, rushes in and vouches for them. Later on, Sakura sees the ghost of this princess and follows her to save the children. She faints and is captured. She awakens inside the castle and follows the sleepwalking children, where they find her feather in crystal. The children and the princess give the feather back to her. They discover that the doctor, is the villain here, hypnotizing the children in the attempts to obtain the feather. Using the scale, ground up, from the previous world, they are able to follow his footsteps while crossing the water. Through Sakura, Princess Emerald's story is revealed - The children fell ill, and she used the power of the feather to cure them, but they weren't cured until they were adults. The group saves the children of the town and depart for the next - the Country of Outo.
When they arrive and have to become registered, Fai signs them up using aliases via pictures - dubbing Fai as Big Kitty, Sakura as Little Kitty, Syaoran as Little Puppy, and Kurogane as Big Puppy. They exchange things from the former world to get necessary supplies for this new one, including a place to stay. Fai signs himself up as the owner of a cafe to gather information, along with Sakura. Syaoran and Kurogane fight monsters called Oni. After the puppy pair get some information on a new type of Oni appearing, Fai goes with Kurogane to the bar to find the person who has seen this Oni and try to get more insight. Using darts from his cafe, he defends himself from any Oni they encounter, although the darts don't officially kill any Oni - they resurrect in moments. Fai is attacked by an Oni, and he says that an attack like that won't kill him. Kurogane calls him out on it and says, "Not won't but can't kill you, right?" He tells Fai the type of people he can't stand are the ones that have lives to live but don't make any attempt to live them. Fai simply smiles and says, "Then I'm the type of guy you hate most." They make their way into the Clover Bar. While they listen to Oruha's song, Fai tells Kurogane that he was the one who always waited for someone to come sweep him away, and even says that he supposes Kurogane hates him even more for that. They find out that the new type of Oni they're looking for is able to take the shape of a human. Fai buys some alcohol from the bar, and Kurogane carries Fai back to the cafe. The entire group gets drunk, except for Kurogane, as he seems able to handle his alcohol. Fai and Sakura meow alot when they're drunk. Fai reaches the conclusion that the Oni are being created on purpose, for the benefit of the hunters. Mokona tells Fai that, what he told Syaoran on the Lake World, about smiling and being happy and having fun, no one would blame Fai either, calling out Fai's façade. While everyone else is out, Seishiro - Syaoran's former combat teacher and a villain in Outo - attacks and kills Fai in the café. Syaoran goes to face Seishiro and dies in the process as well. It is revealed at this point that Outo is a virtual reality world attraction in Fairy Park, Edonis. Syaoran and Fai are safe, as they wake up from this virtual world. When Seishiro traverses worlds with one of Sakura's feathers, Mokona instantly attempts to follow him. Bringing them all to a new world.
When in this jungle-esque world, they encounter a speaking species of something that resemble rabbits with long tails. They freak out upon seeing Kurogane, and Fai encourages Kurogane to stop making scary faces. The town's creatures tell a tale of a monster that ravages the land and demands a sacrifice. Believing it could be one of Sakura's feathers, the group seeks it out, while Fai stays behind as collateral. Fai learns that the "sacrifice" bit came from an extensive line of telephone, where each one told the other what they heard from another, and the message became contorted. The beast itself turns out to be a whirlwind, bound to one place by Sakura's feather. The rabbit creatures were holding onto the feather, and it is returned to Sakura, and they move on to the Country of Shara.
Fai and Kurogane are separated from Mokona, Syaoran, and Sakura. Though they can't be terribly far from each other as Fai and Kurogane can still communicate. Fai reveals that the last world must have been some sort of sham, because of furry creatures in a jungle not making any sense, and Mokona's ability to effectively detect the feather being diminished. The pair walk into a Jinja and are invited to stay while they search for the others. They learn the story of the Guardian Gods between the Jinja and the Suzuran Troupe, and the calamity that their statues supposedly contain. The Jinja have the Yasha statue, while the Suzuran Troupe have the Ashura statue. After an earthquake, the Jinja blame it on the Ashura statue and try to attack it. Syaoran fights them off. Back at the Jinja Shrine, Fai and Kurogane had been drinking, though with less crazy antics on Fai's part this time. Kurogane asks if it was an act, but Fai says it was real, though since it was in a game, it wasn't real alcohol. Fai says it's like having a magic symbol sit in your body and doing its work. Kurogane doesn't look pleased, and Fai says that he probably suspects him of being some shady character now, which Kurogane confirms. Kurogane says it doesn't matter what he thinks, because Fai won't tell him anyway. Fai says he may be wrong. Kurogane brings up the statues, and how Fai paled at the mention of the Ashura one. They're interrupted by an invite to breakfast. While having breakfast, they find out the Jinja had been defeated with kicks, and they assume it's Syaoran until they hear it was a girl (which is Syaoran in disguise). The sky splits apart, and Yasha's statue cries tears of blood while Ashura's is on fire. The third eye on Ashura's statue opens up and Mokona pulls the group into the world beyond the sky - the Country of Shura.
This world is engaged in war, between the Yasha Clan and the Ashura Clan at the Moon Castle that takes place until the moon reaches its peak. Fai and Kurogane arrived in the country before the others, and spent six months before the others were able to show up. Since Fai couldn't understand the language, he let Kurogane take charge and pretended to be mute. Fai attacks Syaoran using a bow. It is determined that Ashura brought them to their world in order to interrupt Fei Wang's control sequence of guiding their movements. In the Moon Castle, Ashura finally brings the war to an end, and kills Yasha. The feather comes forth, and it is revealed that Yasha was dead all along, and that feather took on Yasha's form. The feather is returned to Syaoran. Ashura makes the wish for themself and Yasha to become Gods. Fai hugs everyone tightly so as "not to be separated again" as Mokona travels again. When the group returns to Shara, the statues are together, and it is said to bring calamity if they are separated. The leaders of the Jinja and Suzuran Troupe are married. They effectively changed the future for this country. With that, they move to the next world.
In Piffle World, they are preparing for a race, where one of Sakura's feathers is the prize. Fai and Syaoran speculate on being forgiven for a changing a country's past. After all, if it happens again, they could well throw the country into chaos without meaning to. Fai encourages Syaoran to set that worry aside and to focus on doing what he can. Later on, Fai and Kurogane talk about meeting people who have the same faces and names as people in their former worlds. Kurogane calls out Fai not having met one yet, and that there's no way of knowing. Fai says he'll know, without a doubt. Later, Fai teases Kurogane throughout the race about how caring a guy he actually is. All four of them make it through the preliminary race. However, some sparkles in the smoke caused a mass amount of crashes, though. Fai dubs Kurogane as the daddy of the group and himself as the mommy. Fai also continues to tease Kurogane with "I bet these people here have no idea that you have children of your own (referring to Sakura. Syaoran, and Mokona of course). In the final race, Fai is the first of the group to be knocked out of the running, at the second checkpoint in a bit of sabotage. It damages his dragonfly to being unable to continue. Syaoran's is taken out next. When Kurogane gets eliminated, Fai goes to meet him, to "make sure he sees a doctor like he should." But he also goes to discuss the unnatural occurrences during the race and what he noticed. Sakura finishes the race in first place, being able to solve the puzzle first. As Fai watches them, he comments on how Sakura and Syaoran have changed so much over the course of their travels. Kurogane says if he thinks that, then Fai has changed too, catching him off guard. Later, the group is attacked by the one who was the villain in Spirit - Doctor Kyle. After Sakura takes in the feather, Tomoyo tells everyone that she herself was the one who fixed the races, up through checkpoint 2, and her interactions with Princess Tomoyo. After a massive party, it's time to leave again.
In Lecourt, there is a book that allows the user to view the memories of last person who touches it. Fai does some checking and finds that it is called the Book of Memories, and that it is in regards to Sakura's feather. The original copy, which holds the feather, is in a well-protected library, guarded by powerful creatures and magic. When the library won't let them see it, they resolve to steal it. Mokona guides them, and Fai discovers the magical barrier and directs Kurogane on how to disperse it. Afterwards, he is able to determine what the feather is projecting to confuse them. While he chalks this up to basic magic study, Kurogane calls his bluff, saying that he has to be more powerful than the ones casting the spell to detect it. Fai continues to play dumb and they continue on. Syaoran and Kurogane jump down a pit to retrieve Sakura's feather, and Syaoran reveals a bit of a problem with his personality, overriding his heart to gather the feathers. They return the feather, and Mokona can't use his magic to escape. They flee the library quickly. They become cornered, none of Mokona's magic can work inside the seals. Between a rock and a hard place, Fai reveals that he can, indeed, whistle. And with his whistle comes extremely powerful magic. It drives back the guard dogs and allows Mokona to use its magic to take them to the next world.
The new world, a decimated Tokyo, is a place of destroyed buildings and acid rain. They are attacked by survivors and Kamui accepts them amongst their group. Fai tries his best to buy time for the team while they try to find the feather. While Syaoran and Sakura are resting, Kurogane tries to get Fai to tell the truth about himself. Fai admits to using magic for everyone else's sake, because he doesn't want anyone to get hurt just because they were involved with him. Again, they become interrupted, and Fai tries to shrug off the conversation. But Kurogane grabs him and assures him they will continue this conversation later, and that he isn't concerned about Fai's past. He tells Fai to quit goofing off and start thinking about the present. Fai collapses after Kurogane leaves, crying to himself about how that's easier said than done for him. Fai also gets to see Syaoran's personality slip for the first time. Sakura enters the underground water reservoir via her soul and obtains the feather. This dissipates the force protecting the standing tower in Tokyo, and the acid rain begins to corrode it. Syaoran dives into the water to try and get the feather, not knowing she already has it. He is attacked by Kamui, and Fai dives into the water to help Syaoran, only to find the other personality has taken over, and he's pulling out Kamui's arm. He tries to tell Kamui that Syaoran is a good kid, always trying to save Sakura. It is revealed that the Syaoran they've known all along is a clone, and the clone loses his heart after the original awakens. The C!Syaoran attacks Fai after he uses magic to try and restore the clone's heart, and rips out his left eye and consumes the magic within it. The C!Syaoran is stopped by Kurogane before he can steal the other one. O!Syaoran arrives and C!Syaoran leaves to another world to find more feathers. Fai's life is in danger due to the shock. When Mokona asks Yuuko for help, Fai says not to save him. Despite this, Kurogane bargains with Yuuko to save Fai, making Fai a vampire and Kurogane his only food source. Kurogane tells Fai that if he wants to die so badly, he'll kill him, but he has to live until then. If Fai regains his missing eye, then the vampire contract will be neutralised, and he and Kurogane will return to their normal selves. Fai abruptly stops calling Kurogane by nicknames and says he can't forgive him for keeping him alive. Finding another feather in Tokyo that is unable to be detected, Sakura sacrifices it for the sake of everyone's safety and wellbeing, letting the people have a secure place to live and a clean water source. Sakura goes to retrieve the payment to refill the water reservoir herself. When Fai finds out, he's prepared to brave everything for her, furious that the others let her go, and even tells Kurogane that if he continues to try and stop him, this will turn into a fight. Sakura comes back before too much longer, and she tells Fai that she's sorry he's hurting, but she's also so glad that he's alive, surprising Fai.
In Infinity, matches are held like a chess game - a controller, who in this case is Sakura, and the other three doing battle in the field on her command via receptions from a collar. As they get closer to the championship, Fai learns that the sleeping King, Ashura-ou, has awakened. Sakura tries to make Fai promise to treat himself as the most important person in his life. At the end of the match, Sakura gains another two feathers, making her magic more powerful than Fai's currently-halved magic. Damned by his curse, Fai has no other choice and runs Sakura through with a sword, separating her soul from her body. Fai starts breaking down, but Sakura tells him they made it on time, and that her soul won't disappear - now the future can be changed. She tells the others to take care of Fai, and her soul departs for the World of Dreams, separate from the others' path, while her body goes to Celes. Fai attempts to take his own life, but Kurogane stops him. Fai reveals the lies he's told the entire journey, and the curse to kill the first person he meets with stronger magical power than him. Fai offers to sacrifice the sight in his remaining eye to take them to Celes. Kurogane punches him for this, and instead they all agree to pay a portion of the price to go to Celes. Fai casts a spell onto Kurogane's hand to allow him to summon his sword as he pleases, so he doesn't have to rely on Mokona for it. And with Fai and Mokona's magic, they go to Celes.
When they arrive in Celes, Fai points out that "anything living" is coming from Luval Castle, his home. When asked if there were other people alive, Fai falls silent. Syaoran uses wind magic to get them inside. Ashura-ou welcomes him home. He says that Fai promised to grant his wish, and that he and Fai's brother have been waiting so long. Ashura-ou shows the others Fai's past regarding the events in the Valley. In the midst of this forced memory lane, Kurogane appears to interfere, and Fai attacks under Ashura-ou's provocation to make sure he gets wish granted. Kurogane destroys the barrier, and tries to snap Fai out of it, but Fai continues to attack Kurogane. Kurogane then points out that Fai's past doesn't make sense. Because if Fai wanted to prevent himself from killing anyone, then he shouldn't suppress his powers, but instead try to become the strongest he could possibly become. When Fai again refuses to kill Ashura-ou, Ashura-ou brings out Sakura's body to try and persuade him otherwise, by threatening hers and the others' lives. Fai protects everyone, and proceeds to attack Ashura-ou, with the intention of taking his own life as well. When Ashura-ou threatens to kill everyone else, Kurogane attacks, stabbing and successfully killing him. Ashura-ou mentions one last curse Fai suffers under, and says that if he is with the group then he will surely overcome it. The flourite that the real Fai's corpse was holding onto cracks open and gives Sakura's body the feather it contained. In the process, Fai sees the real Fai's final memories - his sacrifice to help his brother become free. The corpse deteriorates, and Fai reaches for it, but Kurogane stops him and tells him to let them rest. The "last curse" placed on Fai activates, in that if he should fail to kill Ashura-ou with his own hands, the world would collapse under Fai's magic. Fai is unable to transport them out of Celes, and Mokona's earring cannot save everyone as is. Fai tells Kurogane to go; instead, Kurogane sacrifices his own left arm to be able to save Fai and escape with everyone.
They arrive in Kurogane's Japan. After Kurogane awakens, and he admits to not regretting losing his arm, and not wanting to lose anyone precious, Fai comes in and punches Kurogane in the face, calling it payback. Fuuma arrives with an artificial arm replacement for Kurogane, and we learn that Fai offered up the blue colour, the magic, of his other eye to Yuuko as payment. Mokona worries that Fai will die without it, but Fai reminds them of the vampiric blood he has now, and says he won't be throwing away his life for exchanges anymore, giving Kurogane a smile. Seishiiro arrives in their world, finding Fai has gained powers from Kamui's blood, and starts attacking in the attempt to get some answers; Syaoran takes him on instead. When Syaoran grabs the feather, he is transported to the World of Dreams to Sakura. During the process, it is revealed that Sakura is also a clone, and she takes a fatal blow, fading away in C!Syaoran's arms. Kyle reappears yet again and takes C!Sakura's body from the tree. Fai says he knew about the clone all along, and Fei Wang's plans with the feathers and the original Sakura. Fai and Kurogane opt to join O!Syaoran to find O!Sakura and C!Sakura. In a few days’ time, they travel to Clow Country's stopped time.
When they arrive, the same few hours repeat over and over, and they try to find the pattern. In private, Fai calls out Kurogane's pain from the artificial arm and prods with questions. Then punches Kurogane and tells him to say it hurts from the start. The group is forced to fall asleep, and time resets itself again. They noticed this time that there are fewer people from the last repeat. They discover they're in the timeframe just before Sakura's seventh birthday. They see people suddenly melt away before their eyes. Fai confirms that they appear to be true living, breathing people. They rush to make it to the ruins, even though the change they brought is destroying the people there; they have to find O!Sakura.
O!Syaoran reveals his sin and wish, and tells Fai that, before he created the distortion by rewinding time, that Fai might not have been born as a twin at all. O!Syaoran asks them that, now knowing this, how they wish to proceed. Fai steps in and covers it all - saying that Kurogane was sulking, and cares alot. And that the things that have come to pass are not necessarily all O!Syaoran's fault. Everyone cares, and everyone is still there for him and Sakura. Fai encourages O!Syaoran to finish his mission as he wishes to, and leaves O!Syaoran to face his clone, while Fai and Kurogane take on Fei Wong. C!Syaoran deceives Fei Wang and helps O!Syaoran attack their enemy. C!Syaoran takes a fatal blow, and Fai's magical powers are returned to him, as well as his eye and natural blue colours. Fai learns that C!Syaoran kept using the magic in order for Fai to be able to return to normal when he got it back. Fai laments that it would have been better if C!Syaoran had just returned to be with them instead.
With his magical powers more than fully restored, Fai uses his magic to draw Fei Wang through the wormhole and into Clow Country. Fei Wang utilizes Sakura's body, and the frozen time begins to move again. Fai tells Syaoran to do as he's wanted all this time and save her, while Fai and Kurogane take on Fei Wang themselves. The fight with extreme difficulty to attack Fei Wang and give Syaoran that chance. Syaoran manages to grab Sakura's hand and Fei Wang's dream crumbles. Both the clones and originals of Syaoran and Sakura come together, and they use their powers to turn time back and fix the stopped time. The two Sakura's combine their powers to fix it all, Fai uses his magic to help Kurogane reach Fei Wang, and Fei Wang is cut through. Time begins to move forward, and though the group retains their adventures and memories, Syaoran and Sakura's parents are restored to who they should be, and Sakura never suffers the curse that promised her death.
Later, Fai teases Kurogane for not allowing himself to stay longer and fully recover. He's gone back to calling Kurogane by nicknames, and even dotes on him. He tests Kurogane's injuries and calls him hopeless when Kurogane grunts at the touch. Fai explains why the clones disappeared, as they were both Sakura's feathers. He describes it as the memories returning to the source, but worries that Syaoran doesn't see it that way, and that Syaoran's parents are those clones. The logic and time cannot be completely fixed, and so there is paradox over their existence. Syaoran wishes to continue a journey to find a world that will let the Clones exist with them. Fai and Kurogane decide to continue that journey with him, while Sakura stays in Clow Country. Mokona will allow them to return to Clow Country often, and they set out to the next world.
In Nirai Kanai, Fai takes on a more motherly role. Taking care of the others, he makes sure that Syaoran eats, and Kurogane doesn't spend too much. They learn of the Princess Goddess and are invited to a festival in her honour that evening. The Princess Goddess contacts Syaoran telepathically, telling him that she has been waiting for him. Fai notes about the lanterns being wishes to the Princess Goddess, and how the people here must love her from the bottoms of their hearts. Later that night, Kurogane and Fai made an undisclosed bet that Fai won, giving Fai possession of their funds and the power to make Kurogane to obey three of his requests.
The group recieves an invitation to visit the Princess Goddess, and are whisked away by two spirits to go see her. Fai can pick up right away that the guardians are not using their real names, since they do not seem to trust the group. They listen to their plight, how the spirit world is tearing down the barrier that separates it from the living world. Even though Syaoran is the only one who can physically help, Fai and Kurogane agree to go to the spirit world as well. Fai teases Kurogane excessively, which results in getting him noogied and whining about how it hurts.
Upon entering the spirit world, Syaoran sees everything normally, while the rest of the group sees monsters and decay. When they realise Syaoran doesn't see the potential dangers, Fai uses his magic to show him what they see. However, Syaoran chooses to trust the souls here, asking Fai to remove the spell. While Fai agrees to let Syaoran lead, he also agrees that if he and Kurogane feel that Syaoran is in any danger, they will step in. Fai uses his magic to create barriers and protect the others, primarily, as they journey to the "centre" of the spirit world, the Utaki. After an attack on one of the birds in the spirit world, Fai is able to determine that whatever damage the group takes, Syaoran takes tenfold. Still, Syaoran wishes to continue to the Utaki.
Syaoran asks Mokona to retrieve the items that Watanuki sent them. Fai can sense power from them and tells the others that Syaoran is the only one allowed to touch them. Fai uses his magic to read what the items can do specifically. He advises against using the one for transportation too early, as it can only be used once, and they may need it in a dire situation. However, Syaoran chooses to use it anyway, to take them to the Utaki. While Syaoran goes to converse with the Utaki, the others accept that they need to be left behind. Meanwhile, they get to interact with the Princess Goddess' guardians, and Fai and Kurogane make a stand that if anything brings harm to Syaoran and Sakura again, they will cut it down without hesitation.
Syaoran learns that his will is the only thing that will allow the people's souls of the spirit world become reincarnated again, through combatting his clone. Though the Utaki senses an item "from the outside" that Syaoran brought with him, believing it will corrupt the spirit world, the Utaki tries to destroy Syaoran and the others. However, Syaoran's will and item overpowers the Utaki's and destroys it. The Utaki is filled with water, and through that water, the group returns to the world of the living.
When Syaoran awakens, Fai is there to greet him. They are summoned again to the Princess Goddess. Through her, they learn that Syaoran's will allowed only half of the souls in the spirit world to be reincarnated. Because of Syaoran's will, the border between the world of the living and the world of the dead didn't overflow and break. Syaoran then hands over his final item - an item that will create a new Utaki. With that, the Princess Goddess is very grateful, and the series ends.
Personality:
When we first see Fai, he appears very playful and even happy. However, this is just a mask that is given for a variety of reasons - for his mission, and to avoid getting close to anyone primarily. He's in the mindset that he might have to kill anyone to revive his brother, after all, and he's doing his best to prepare himself for that. His mask is there to not blow his cover and to keep his distance. He even states himself that he had no intention of getting close to anyone the way he ended up doing.
The mask provides an additional cover to hide just how devastated he is. In reviews of his time in Celes, Fai is particularly serious and very sad. Though he did smile in Celes, it was also an attempt to cheer others up, especially Ashura-ou. But, with his brother dead, and the promise of having to kill Ashura-ou looming over him, he runs from his problems to try and complete his mission in the hopes of reviving his brother and to never have to kill Ashura-ou, as he cares for both of them so very much. Covering it up with a playful demeanour means that he hopes no one will notice or even ask about his personal pains.
Because of this mask and his mission, Fai quickly turns to lying at every chance he would rather not talk about it. He allows diversions to interfere and will avoid topics and give supplemental information if possible. His lies are often not well-constructed however, and many holes can be found upon looking more closely at them. Kurogane seems to notice this frequently about him, though often doesn't comment on it until later on. Fai learns to construct these lies without providing any proper backup for them, which shows his inexperience in doing such things. Although Fai in his natural element isn't necessarily straightforward, he was only more withdrawn in Celes but would provide truths as asked for them instead of always dodging the question.
Fai also lies frequently about his abilities and knowledge. Early on, he claims his magic isn't powerful, and then that the tattoo he gave Yuuko means he cannot perform magic anymore, and then he keeps altering those claims as each of them keep quickly being proven incorrect, and Fai can be seen half-stumbling over each of these reveals as he just gives a casual shrug and dismissal. He claims his abilities are usually intuition, and does his best to come acrost as otherwise useless to those around him. Again, this facade relates to the need to have a cover. However, his hesitation to use magic stems from the lack of the tattoo on his back, meant to keep his magic in check with the promise he gave Ashura-ou. Fai also claims to not be able to whistle, so he will often say "Weet-woo" or "Hyuu" to mimic the sound. However, Fai's whistle also carries a high level of magic, and that's why he doesn't whistle.
Oddly enough, it's a little difficult to tell if Fai really starts his journey with no intention of dying. After all, the mage states that he has no intention of dying himself, and later on, it's said out loud that he won't die until he gives his brother's life back to him. But at the same time, Fai doesn't use his magic to defend himself, leading to others having to save him from time to time when he miscalculates a judgement of a person or situation. And Kurogane calls him out on this, with little more response than a shrug. Fai probably walks on the razor's edge of surviving to fulfill his promise, or just succumbing to death and ending his string of curses. Additionally, Kurogane points out that it's not that Fai "won't" die, but because he "can't". And so, it may be more likely that Fai is simply banking on that and just succumbing to hardly living at all while he just tries to get through this mission.
Fai starts teasing Kurogane pretty much right away, perhaps because he knows he may have to kill him down the road and thus tries to use it to keep distance between them, or because Kurogane is so uptight, and it may even be possibly due to both of these reasons. Whatever the reason or combination thereof, Fai's teasing of Kurogane is pretty relentless, and starts off by calling Kurogane "Mr. Black", even though he gets corrected. And then he alters to calling Kurogane by childish nicknames such as "Kuro-rin", "Kuro-tan", etc. When in Outo, Kurogane says the stupid names that Fai called him before "Big Puppy" were better, and Fai asks which one he likes best, starting to list them off happily. He'll even pick on Kurogane's circumstances, such as Tomoyo sending him to the witch; "You did something bad and she did it to scold you~". It makes Fai's teasing even more interesting, because he doesn't know how to use chopsticks himself, yet he will make fun of Kurogane's skills with using silverware. He even tricks Kurogane to eat by pulling simple tricks to get Kurogane to look at him with his guard lowered.
Fai does expect to agitate the ninja, and to be attacked in return, and is thus prepared to playfully run away or defend himself. If anything, he appears to antagonize the ninja because it's easy to get such a rile out of him. He even says later that he finds Kurogane's impatience cute. Fai also mock-complains when Kurogane is mean, such as when Kurogane had to save Fai from the Kiishimu. When Kurogane retorts that the acid would have burnt him if he didn't smack Fai out of the way, Fai continues by saying that Kurogane could have done it in a nicer way. He tends to volunteer Kurogane into many situations, be it being just a supportive presence, to the manpower that gets them all through, or even appointing him as the Team Dad. He even makes Kurogane their personal bodyguard at one point by telling people who believe that Sakura is cheating to direct their questions to Kurogane.
Fai is also particularly polite by default. He treats most others, and even especially women, with respect and courtesy. He'll even bow and escort as he feels is needed. He would rather avoid conflict that he feels don't deserve it, and even his self-defense measures usually go out of his way to not try to cause harm to them as he dodges away. He also always seems to be grateful for others' generosities and will put in efforts to repay them, though he won't turn down a kindness that asks for no repayment either. Fai will often be the one to give proper introductions of the group, along with Mokona. Fai's actions and reactions often reflect that he treats others much better than himself, and that he would rather their safety be guaranteed over his own as long as it's possible to do so.
Fai also tends to show an interesting level of laziness. He has Kurogane repair Chunhyang's broken ceiling while he sits there chatting and drinking tea. Though that may be simply to just tease Kurogane further as well. But he finds himself looking for "easy work while gathering information" in Outo, claiming that he "can't always stay on the knife's edge." He does show a preference for relaxing whenever he is able. And with this, Fai has a special fondness for alcohol. Though in Outo, his reactions were more "programmed" with him obsessively meowing, and appearing to be completely smashed, with a hangover to follow the next morning, in the real world, he seems able to keep drinking alcohol with little consequence, and enjoys it when the flavour of the alcohol is particularly good. We see in a former interaction on Celes with Ashura-ou that Fai seems to love alcohol even more than food. And he certainly won't turn down drinking in a relaxed setting.
Fai seems to have an affinity and appreciation for cooking. He claims that it's like mixing a potion for magic, so it comes easily to him. He tends to pour alot of care into the foods he makes and uses it to take care of the others. However, Fai does not appreciate sour foods in the slightest, and outright refuses to eat it when offered to him, as shown in Nirai Kanai when Kurogane tries to feed him Nukazuke. Fai visibly twists away from it and makes a rather unpleasant face along with whining.
Although Fai fights to remain distant from the group, he does warm up to them and even comes to dote on them. He does his best to make sure everyone is taken care of and, if they are not happy, he will offer steps to help them become happy, even if it's just for a moment at a time. He doesn't wish his sadness on others, and it shows the more it grows. He adores the Hell out of Sakura and even offers to become her servant in this quest, becoming extremely concerned when she faces danger. He gives Syaoran words of encouragement and tries to help him take it easy. He supports Kurogane from the sidelines, knowing that is what he prefers. Fai tailors his supports to the person that he is giving them to at the time. He does his best to read that person's needs and gives the best that he can offer at the time.
Fai is also particularly observant, often seeing and understanding how a person feels without needing a thorough explanation, though he might play it off as though he is ignorant of it. He tends to admit out loud what he finds to be particularly impressive about others, and seems to be sincere about it, such as Syaoran's bluntness or Kurogane's skills. Kurogane says that Fai has a face that says, "Ignore me, I'm a fool," but he can see right through it. He also believes it takes a certain kind of strength to be able to cry when you should, showing he's empathetic. He encourages Syaoran to be happy and smile, because he might not always get those moments, and that he might become sad all of the time if he doesn't take those moments to smile. He even tells Sakura that if she wishes to help Syaoran, her smile is the best thing for him. Fai tends to give rather solid counseling advice to the party in ways such as this, in the hopes to encourage a smoother trip, and a happier team.
Fai comes to love the children, Mokona, and Kurogane, and is even willing to give his life for them at a moment's notice. It destroys him from the inside when he kills Sakura, making him turn the blade upon himself. He hates losing any of the children, clones or originals, and will outright defend them with all that he's got. And though Kurogane is thoroughly capable of defending himself and making his own decisions, Fai tells him to leave him behind on Celes so that the ninja can get out alive. And, after the events of Celes, he starts fighting to live because of these people. They mean all of the worlds to him, and he will use all of his power to keep them safe. These people make the difference to Fai he has never had in his life before - a reason to love, and therefore a reason to live. Because Fai no longer feels like a burden, but instead as something of value to the others, his outlook begins to change on himself.
Especially after Fei Wang's death, Fai's confidence seems to begin to solidify. His sincerity shows, and he becomes genuinely happy. He makes more bold statements, and his teasing of Kurogane becomes stronger than ever, especially if it's to help keep the ninja from doing anything foolish. But that teasing is also more compassionate and shows that he worries for Kurogane's wellbeing, and doting in his own way. Fai stops dodging his way around life, and becomes more direct, enjoying each moment even more than before. Undoubtedly, he loves to have fun, and any prospect of it thrills him. When the spirits come to whisk them away to see the Princes Goddess, he treats it as though they are going on a roller coaster.
He doesn't even hesitate to use his magic anymore, especially if it means it will help someone out, and even more so if it is one of his group. His friendliness is more genuine and warm; although he will still be wary of people he can't read the intentions of, such as the guardians of the Goddess Princess in Nirai Kanai. He still treated them kindly, but it was similar to the facade at the beginning of the journey, knowing that the guardians did not trust their group to not cause harm.
Overall, Fai is genuinely a warm, caring, even motherly individual by nature. But it takes an entire journey of regret and others coming to care for him to show him that he's not a curse just for merely existing. He'll dote on the others, and tease Kurogane, at every chance he gets and is there for them to be any kind of support they could possibly need, even if it's only a little. He cares, and after the events of Celes, he goes out of his way to show that he cares and to protect at all costs the new "family" he has come to call his own. Following them to the ends of the various worlds is not a problem for him, and he loves sharing the moments of happiness with them. To them, he is worth something, and there he finds his own self-worth. He found acceptance that he couldn't find in his homeworlds, and that has made all of the difference to him.
Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping:
NOTE: Headanon abilities are in italics.
MAGICAL ABILITIES - As a wizard worthy of the D. title, Fai has a vast expansion of magical skills. Also, it is mentioned in canon that Fai has been able to learn most magics just by studying and practice alone. However, despite his efforts, Fai is unable to learn healing magic.
- Interdimensional travel: Fai has the ability to cross dimensions and worlds, and the ability to do so multiple times. This is considered extremely powerful magic and can only usually be performed once by most individuals, marking Fai's power as a D-level Wizard. Even Mokona compares the skill to their own, meaning he doesn't need the Witch's help to cross dimensions. However, it does have its limitations. A limit on his magic, such as when his power is halved from his missing eye, means he will require an outside source of power to complete the spell when sending multiple people. Also, performing the spell too many times in a small timeframe will also exhaust this ability until he is given time to rest that allows him to replenish his magic uses.
- Flight: Fai has the ability to fly, float, and dodge in mid-air. This doesn't really seem to have much in the way of limitations and seems to be fairly easy for him to cast at will.
- Barriers: Fai can cast these to block magic and attacks, usually by scrawling runes in the air. However, when this is done by whistling, it also creates something of a pocket dimension where he can willingly allow one to cast a spell that would normally be blocked by their surroundings (such is seen in Lecourt, where he does so to let Mokona warp them to another world in their escape). It would be easy to assume that he could probably suppress magical powers in a similar manner as well, so long as he is more powerful than they are.
- Transmutation: Fai is able to alter the appearances of given objects, and perhaps give them artificial sentience, such as giving one of Sakura's feather the image of his mother, as well as being able to physically pet her. He alters her form a couple of times in the series, and it seems to take no effort for him to do so, though giving them a sense of "life" probably takes more of his magical ability.
- Energy Concentration: Fai can shoot concentrated energy blasts in the form of beams, large bursts, or even in a series of rapid-fires. It is probably also safe to assume that he can use concentrated energy to create light and a heat source.
- Illusions: It is probably safe to assume that Fai can perform some degree of illusion magic. From creating tricks of the light, to making it appear as though someone is in the area. Although, illusions might not be interactive and do not necessarily come with a sound function.
- Ice Element: Given to the environment he grew up in, Fai can cast magic that will create ice and snow, from flurries to ice crystals and pyres.
MAGICAL KNOWLEDGE AND INSIGHT - Fai has been able to study magic to a very in-depth level, ever since he was a child.
- Potions: Fai mentions more than once a proficiency in mixing potions. Though in what is never specified. It is, however, clear that he cannot perform any healing types of magic, and so potions are probably limited to that by extension as well.
- Sense Magic: Fai is able to detect and pinpoint magic; the stronger the magic, the easier it is for him to sense, making him able to detect extremely powerful persons and objects. He does not seem to be able to sense Sakura's feathers, but is able to find most other things based on this perception ability.
- Disperse Magic: Due to Fai's extensive studies, he is able to determine the type of spell being used and disperse it with ease, and not necessarily through his own magical means. He can find the reason a spell works and remove one a portion of what keeps it functioning and thus disarm it, such as moving the bookcase in Lecourt.
- Complex Spell Requirements: Fai has a very thorough knowledge of how spells work, and what problems they can invoke when casting them. One such instance is knowing that a locator spell will reveal the caster's location to the other party.
CURSES - Fai undergoes the process of a few curses, thanks to Fei Wang Reed.
- Stronger Than You: Fai is fated to kill the first person he comes acrost, in person, that possesses stronger magical ability than he does. It was initially built for when he met O!Syaoran, but it's C!Sakura's collected feathers that triggers it first.
- Erase the World: Upon his return to the world of Celes, should he fail to kill Ashura-ou with his own two hands, Fai's magic will activate to destroy Celes, leaving him without enough magic to transport everyone to safety. This was meant to make it so the only ones who could escape would be Sakura's body and one other person.
- Tattoo Loophole: In Ashura-ou's hopes to spare Fai the pain of both of his curses, Ashura-ou gives him a tattoo that limits the growth of Fai's magical abilities, so that when Ashura-ou becomes stronger than Fai, Fai will be forced to kill him instead.
PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES - While Fai's preferred methods lie in magic use, he does have a few physical skills in his favour. However, Fai is something of a glass cannon, and even states that it would not take much in the way of physical blows to take him out.
- Hand-to-hand Combat: Fai can actually swing a punch and is particularly agile in his skills. While he'd rather do no damage at all in an ideal situation, he is able to land very strong blows.
- Cooking: Fai is quite skilled at cooking, claiming it is similar to creating magical potions. He seems to have no issues cooking any manner of food in any particular style.
- Drawing: Fai is able to draw particularly well and enjoys drawing cutesy pictures. Whether this is due to a spell cast by magic, or because he learned to draw through writing magical runes is not particularly specified. Though, it's probably safe to assume the latter.
- Longevity: Due to his skills as a wizard, Fai's life expectancy is extremely high. Although there is no given limit on how many years he has, he is probably about 1/5 of the way through his lifespan, via his physical appearance combined with how many years he has lived already. He could potentially live for 1000+ years.
VAMPIRISM - Fai undergoes a temporary transformation into being a vampire, in order to preserve his life. However, the vampire blood becomes neutralised after he regains his full magical power.
- Prolonged Longevity: Fai already has a long lifespan due to his magic. Being a vampire expands it a little longer, due to the lifespans the vampires have.
- Claws: Fai is able to expand and retract his nails into long claws that act as sharp as blades.
- Rapid Healing: Because of the vampire blood, and damage done to him usually means he can recover quickly. He is not immortal, but it becomes much more difficult to kill him from blows that would otherwise be fatal to the average person.
- Blood Drinking: The typical "perk" of being a vampire is needing blood to survive. Thanks to a blending of blood between the vampires and Kurogane, Kurogane is the only source he can take that blood from.
WARPING:
Interdimensional Travel: I'm going to go ahead and nerf that for you right now. If he attempts to use it, a crackle of electricity will backfire onto him.
Barriers and Magic Suppression: Has a 75% failure rate. Any successes will cause exhaustion.
Energy Concentration: Can be used as a light, and has a 50% failure rate for heat. If used as an attack, it'll be as useless as throwing glitter at someone.
Disperse Magic: Limited to one use per day at most, and will be a double-edged sword that will render his own magic useless for the next 24 hours.
Curses: Will be voided, so that he doesn't kill anyone just for being stronger, lol.

Are you comfortable with prominent elements of fourth-walling?: Yes
What themes of horror/psychological thrillers do you enjoy the most?: Honestly, I really love great suspense, creepy stuff, ghost stories. Anything that puts a character on edge, like they might be losing their sanity, but perhaps in no actual danger of death.
Is there anything in particular you absolutely need specific content warnings for?: Rape, excessive verbal abuse (and by excessive I mean every other thing that is said to them in one sitting is meant to destroy who they are, or their value of themself, as a person. As long as it's not super frequent, verbal abuse is okay.), graphic gore and/or breaking of bones in a violent situation.
